Frank Zafiro est un auteur acclamé qui s'est fait un nom dans l'écriture de fictions criminelles brutales. Enfant, Zafiro a toujours été intéressé par l'écriture, commençant à la prendre au sérieux à l'âge de treize ans. Sa passion pour l'écriture l'a amené à rédiger le premier jet d'Under A Raging Moon en 1995, qui deviendra plus tard le premier livre de la série River City de procédures policières. Cette série se déroule dans une version fictive de Spokane, Washington, et met en scène un groupe d'officiers, de détectives et de dirigeants.
Avant de devenir écrivain à temps plein, Zafiro a servi dans l'armée américaine de 1986 à 1991 dans les renseignements militaires en tant que linguiste tchèque. Après son service militaire, il est devenu officier de police à Spokane, Washington, en 1993. Au cours de sa carrière, il a occupé divers postes, y compris agent de patrouille, caporal, détective, sergent et capitaine. Il a pris sa retraite de l'application de la loi en 2013 pour se concentrer sur sa carrière d'écrivain et d'enseignant. Le passé de Zafiro dans l'application de la loi s'est avéré inestimable dans son écriture de fiction criminelle, lui fournissant une perspective unique des deux côtés du badge.
Outre la série River City, Zafiro a écrit plusieurs autres séries, dont les mystères Stefan Kopriva, The Last Horseman, la série Spocompton, la série Ania avec Jim Wilsky, les séries Bricks et Cam Job avec Eric Beetner, et la série Charlie-316 avec Colin Conway. Il a également écrit de la fiction grand public sous son vrai nom, Frank Scalise, et de la fantasy sous le nom de Frank Saverio.
