John Connolly est un romancier irlandais réputé, principalement connu pour ses romans policiers. Il est né à Dublin, en Irlande, en 1968 et a exercé divers métiers, allant du journaliste au barman, en passant par employé de la fonction publique locale, serveur et homme à tout faire chez Harrods à Londres. Connolly a étudié l'anglais au Trinity College de Dublin et le journalisme à l'Université de Dublin. Il a travaillé pendant cinq ans comme journaliste free-lance pour le journal The Irish Times, pour lequel il continue de contribuer. Actuellement, il est basé à Dublin, mais il partage son temps entre l'Irlande et les États-Unis.
Connolly est l'auteur de la série Charlie Parker de romans policiers mettant en scène un détective privé, qui est sa principale œuvre. La série met en scène un ancien policier, Charlie Parker, qui traque l'assassin de sa femme et de sa fille. Le premier roman de la série, Every Dead Thing, est paru en 1999, et le onzième roman, The Wrath of Angels, sera disponible au Royaume-Uni en août 2012 et aux États-Unis en janvier 2013. En plus de la série Charlie Parker, Connolly a également écrit plusieurs romans indépendants, ainsi que des histoires courtes surnaturelles. Certains de ses romans indépendants ont été adaptés au cinéma. Les genres de livres de Connolly incluent la fiction policière, l'horreur, la science-fiction, le drame et la fantasy. Il a également écrit une série de romans pour jeunes adultes, la série Samuel Johnson, qui comprend des titres tels que The Gates et Hell's Bells (UK)/The Infernals (US).
