Kristiana Gregory est une autrice renommée de littérature jeunesse et de fiction historique, principalement reconnue pour ses « Mystères de Cabin Creek » et ses contributions à la série « Dear America ». Née et ayant grandi à Manhattan Beach, en Californie, à deux pâtés de maisons de l'océan, Gregory a passé une grande partie de son enfance à créer des histoires pour divertir ses jeunes frères et sœurs. Sa passion pour le récit a commencé à un jeune âge, et elle a écrit son premier poème à l'âge de onze ans, avant de recevoir sa première lettre de refus peu de temps après. Malgré cet échec précoce, Gregory a poursuivi son rêve de devenir écrivain, exerçant divers métiers tels que reporter, téléphoniste, animatrice de camp, maître-nageur, chroniqueuse et critique de livres pour le LA Times, avant d'atteindre son objectif.
Le premier roman de Gregory, « Jenny des Tetons », a été publié en 1989, et elle a depuis écrit plus de trente livres pour enfants pour Scholastic, Harcourt et Holiday House. Elle s'est également essayée à l'auto-édition, publiant sa propre biographie « Longhand : L'ascension, la chute et la renaissance de ma carrière d'auteur de livres pour enfants ». L'écriture de Gregory allie les faits à la narration, ce qui lui permet de créer des fins heureuses même lorsque l'histoire ne les offre pas. Elle a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail, dont la médaille d'or 2012 du meilleur roman policier pour jeunes adultes de Literary Classics pour son livre « Stalked ». Gregory vit actuellement à Boise, dans l'Idaho, avec son mari, ses deux fils adultes et leurs golden retrievers.
