Mariko Tamaki est une écrivaine très accomplie, originaire de Toronto, au Canada. Elle est reconnue pour son travail en tant qu'auteure, dramaturge, activiste et interprète. Tamaki a collaboré avec divers groupes, tels que le groupe féministe «Pretty Porky and Pissed Off» et la troupe de théâtre TOA. Ses écrits ont été très appréciés, son roman «Cover Me» (McGilligan Books) ayant reçu une attention particulière. Elle a également publié une collection de nouvelles courtes intitulée «True Lies: The Book of Bad Advice» (Women's Press) et un troisième livre, «FAKE ID», prévu pour le printemps 2005.
Tamaki a présenté son travail dans tout le Canada et les États-Unis, participant à divers festivals, dont le Calgary Folkfest 2004, le Vancouver Writer's Festival 2003, Spatial III et la tournée Perpetual Motion/Girls Bite Back. Elle est également intervenue dans des émissions de radio et de télévision, telles que «First Person Singular» sur CBC radio et «Imprint» sur TVO. Actuellement, Tamaki poursuit une maîtrise en études féministes à l'Université York.
En plus de ses premiers travaux, Tamaki est également une auteure chevronnée de bandes dessinées et de prose. Elle a écrit des romans graphiques tels que «Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me», avec Rosemary Valero O’Connell, «Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass», avec Steve Pugh, «Skim» et «This One Summer», avec Jillian Tamaki. Le travail de Tamaki lui a valu de nombreux prix et distinctions, dont des prix Doug Wright, Eisner et Ignatz, ainsi que des mentions honorables Caldecott et Printz.
