Mark Robert Bowden est un écrivain américain accompli, principalement connu pour son roman "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War". Né le 17 juillet 1951 à St. Louis, Missouri, Bowden a développé un intérêt précoce pour le journalisme après avoir lu le livre de Tom Wolfe "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" pendant son séjour à Loyola College dans le Maryland.
Après avoir obtenu son diplôme en 1973, Bowden a entamé une carrière de journaliste, devenant finalement rédacteur au The Philadelphia Inquirer de 1979 à 2003. Pendant son mandat au The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bowden a reçu une reconnaissance internationale pour son travail, remportant de nombreux prix. Il a également contribué à diverses publications, notamment Men's Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, Sports Illustrated et Rolling Stone.
L'écriture de Bowden lui a valu une reconnaissance généralisée, son livre "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War" ayant été adapté en un film à succès du même nom, réalisé par Ridley Scott. Le livre offre un récit détaillé de la descente militaire américaine en Somalie et a remporté deux Academy Awards.
Outre "Black Hawk Down", Bowden a écrit plusieurs autres livres notables, notamment "Hue 1968", "Guests of the Ayatollah" et "Killing Pablo". Il est rédacteur au The Atlantic depuis de nombreuses années et a rendu compte pour The Philadelphia Inquirer pendant plus de vingt-cinq ans. Bowden réside actuellement à Oxford, en Pennsylvanie.
