Martin Edwards est un auteur britannique réputé, connu pour ses romans policiers et ses contributions critiques au genre. Né à Knutsford, Edwards a fréquenté une école grammaticale locale dans le Cheshire et a ensuite étudié à Balliol College, à l'université d'Oxford, où il a obtenu une licence avec mention très bien en 1977. Après avoir été admis comme avocat en 1980, il s'est installé à Liverpool et a entamé une carrière juridique couronnée de succès.
Outre son travail juridique, Edwards a rédigé plusieurs articles et livres juridiques, ainsi qu'une série de romans fiction. Ses séries Harry Devlin et Lake District Mysteries ont rencontré un grand succès. Edwards est également membre fondateur de la Northern Chapter of the Crime Writers' Association et du Murder Squad, démontrant ainsi son engagement envers la communauté du roman policier.
Martin Edwards a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail, dont le CWA Diamond Dagger, la plus haute distinction en matière de littérature policière britannique. Ses romans récents, tels que "Mortmain Hall" et "Gallows Court", ont été bien accueillis, le dernier ayant été nominé pour deux prix. En 2018, les bibliothécaires britanniques ont rendu hommage à l'ensemble de son œuvre en lui décernant le CWA Dagger in the Library. Edwards a également édité plus de 40 anthologies et publié divers livres non fiction sur l'histoire du roman policier, mettant en valeur son expertise en la matière. Il est l'archiviste de la Crime Writers' Association et du Detection Club, et a été élu huitième président en 2015.
