Richie Tankersley Cusick est une auteure renommée de fiction fantastique pour jeunes adultes. Elle a acquis une notoriété au cours des dernières années 1980 et du début des années 1990, une période où les genres horreur et jeunes adultes connaissaient un essor significatif. La popularité de Cusick a grandi aux côtés d'auteurs tels que R.L. Stine et Christopher Pike, plusieurs de ses livres figurant sur les listes de best-sellers de livres de poche.
Cusick est née à La Nouvelle-Orléans, en Louisiane, en 1952 et a passé son enfance dans une petite ville de bayou appelée Barataria. Le marécage inquiétant de sa ville natale l'a inspirée à commencer à écrire à un jeune âge. Après le collège, elle a travaillé chez Hallmark et a déménagé dans une maison hantée à Kansas City. C'est pendant son séjour dans cette maison hantée qu'elle a commencé à écrire son premier roman, Evil on the Bayou, qui a connu un grand succès et lui a permis de commencer à écrire à temps plein.
Avec plus de deux douzaines de romans à son actif, Cusick a été une figure éminente de la fiction d'horreur pour jeunes adultes pendant trois décennies. Certains de ses ouvrages les plus populaires incluent Trick or Treat, Lifeguard, Teacher's Pet, Vampire, et Someone at the Door, ainsi que deux titres d'horreur pour adultes, Scarecrow et Blood Roots. Actuellement, Cusick réside en Caroline du Nord avec son chien, où elle écrit sur un ancien bureau à rouleau qui appartenait autrefois à un directeur de funérailles. Ce bureau est réputé hanté, ajoutant à l'atmosphère inquiétante et mystérieuse qui a longtemps été une source d'inspiration pour l'écriture de Cusick.
