Robert Penn Warren était un poète, romancier et critique littéraire américain réputé, principalement connu pour être l'un des fondateurs de la théorie littéraire de la Nouvelle Critique et pour être la seule personne à avoir remporté des Pulitzer Prizes pour both la fiction et la poésie. Warren est né le 24 avril 1905 à Guthrie, Kentucky, et a fréquenté le Clarksville High School dans le Tennessee, l'Université Vanderbilt en 1925 et l'Université de Californie, Berkeley en 1926.
