Roy MacGregor est un auteur et acteur hautement accompli, qui a apporté une contribution significative au journalisme de hockey. Il a été nommé Officier dans l'Ordre du Canada, l'un des plus grands honneurs du pays pour la contribution méritoire. MacGregor a été profondément impliqué dans le hockey toute sa vie, ayant joué au hockey étoile dans sa ville natale de Huntsville, en Ontario, et ayant même entraîné ce sport. Il continue de jouer au hockey « old-timers » à Ottawa, où il réside actuellement avec son épouse Ellen. Ensemble, ils ont quatre enfants adultes.
MacGregor est un auteur acclamé dans la littérature du hockey, ayant écrit plusieurs classiques sur le sujet. Son livre, "Home Team: Fathers, Sons and Hockey" a été finaliste pour le prestigieux Governor General's Award for Literature. Practice", et son dernier ouvrage, "Wayne Gretzky's Ghost: And Other Tales from a Lifetime in Hockey".
